The diary contains brief daily entries for this period in which Pettengill discussed his health and the weather, conditions of camp life and supplies (including quinine rationing), his military duties, and enemy encounters. In addition, there are records of debts owed to Pettengill by his companions and a short list of men in his regiment who died.
